Toothie edge
Gents,
I hone usually 1000 grit threw 20,000 grit.. I use different pressures when honing. As imp rogress my pressure usually gets lighter. I do heel leading strokes.. Half strokes then x strokes to refine the edge.. Sometimes when I'm done with the progression the edge can be slightly Toothie..any tips on how to advoid this..?? It's Toothie before the strops.. And sometimes even after the strops ..

Toothie edge
Have you seen if pastes or sprays tone it down a little?
-
I sometimes think if I get a toothy or prickly feeling shave that i have gone too far
-
How does the shave feel? What magnification are you seeing the "toothy" edge at? I was just thinking of this cause I honed a razor up and the edge looked toothy or fuzzy at 100X and I realized that it was actually particles picked up from the white paste on my linen strop.
-
I ran a search of the site and it showed "toothie" as being used three times, none with a description. So I hope it's not just me wondering what you mean...
-
as i unnerstand it:
toothie in feel is sharp but not buttery.
toothie in appearance is ...too much magnification generally. :p

could the steel not be able to hold up to the 20k hone? maybe finishing on something smoother but not quite that high of grit might help out.

I was applying to much pressure at lower grits.i backed off pressure ..the striations from lower grits were so deep because of my pressure. .I backed off under magnification looks alot cleaner

Glad we could help!:gaah:
