I really need the next size up, but I am trying to keep to a minimalist approach. I set up on a TV snack table and it's all gone when I am done. That's as wife approved as I can imagine.

For those who pack away their hones, a cheap safety net padding for them is Sill Seal foam plastic.
Way better than bubble wrap of any style.

It will accept more than one hit and is impervious to water or other such stuff.
Available at most lumber or home maintenance stores. for very cheap. and I use it for wrapping the stones and any breakables I send through the mails.

great idea Glenn !!
no wife anymore but i do all my hone work in a spare bedroom .. i have my synthetics on a bookshelf and all my naturals in a old dresser drawer that i foam lined .. i slide the drawer under the bed when needed and back under when im done , of course im not hitting the hones everyday , but there are some days that are consistant ..
Good to see that I'm not alone in this...
My wife has been complaining about my stones all over the house, so I had to come up with some sort of plan.
Here's what I ended up with.
It is a small tranchér-table that has some small wheels at the bottom.
This way I can have my most used stones ready in a few seconds, and much more importantly, get them into a safe place equally fast.
As my wife is a tailor by education, she has a work-station of sorts in one corner of the living room.
I just set my bucket, bridge and stoneholder on that when I wanna do some honing.
Easy to clean up, and the Mrs. are much happier. Those two things are strangely related somehow...

Heh, that's just my daily drivers;)
You may have a point though, as far as my wife see things anyway
Even though I have solved the issues of consolidating things when I am not honing, in a fashion acceptable to SHMBO, I still get glares and comments when I setup to do some razors.. Most often it's limited to a look from the corner of her eye and a comment of 'just too many...' and I only have a dozen or so.
Some battles are worth fighting. This one, however, is all about staying under the radar.
