Shapton stones - info ?

I was thinking to myself
How is the 15000 Shapton for finishing after the Belgian yellow one, is it necessary? will it give good results?
Also
I have seen they have on their site a 30,000 stone, (Very expensive) how is it? what does it give?
Does someone here have experience with these ones?

The Coticule is a finishing stone. I don't think the 15K would improve the edge. As a matter of fact I think it would degrade it. I have no experience with the 30K and haven't heard much about it but I think you can get to a point where its just overkill. Where do you stop? 30K, 60K, 100K?

I have both a Shapton 15K, and a coticule. I prefer the finish off the coticule, but I can't say that the Shapton is not a good finishing stone. I think the man-made stones just cut a lot faster and you have to be more careful with them. I typically refresh my blades with about 10 strokes on the coticule. If I'm sharpening the blade for the first time, I come to the coticule off an 8K Norton, and may take 20-30 or more strokes on the coticule. (The 8K Norton cuts fast too.)

So if you have a new razor
What do you do?
Start with the Norton 8000 and then the coticule and then the 15K or the coticule should be enough for polishing the keen edge?

I would recommend couticule or Shapton, not both....

And it will depend some times for each razor which to choose...

I go from the Norton 8K to the coticule, and that's it. I bought the Shapton 15K early on when I was learning, but don't use it anymore after I got the coticule. The Shapton is probably a fine stone, but the coticule puts a fantastic finish on my razors. You can probably do the same with the Shapton, I just wouldn't take as many strokes, I think it cuts a lot faster.

I wouldn't think so, if you're referring to a yellow coticule.

The 15000 is not a finishing Stone in fact The Norton 8000 does a better Job To finish use a belgian or shapton 30000
