Dry and wet TPT

Whenever I sharpen and hone I have always had trouble feeling that stickiness using a wet TPT but have no trouble with a dry TPT, and so often I use a dry thumb to check my edges. Even then I will use my index finger to check edges because they feel more sensitive to the feel of the edge. Is this normal or is it possible that I am not doing something right in my honing in order to get a sticky wet TPT? I am still a noob trying still to get my Thumb calibrated in. :P

I was taught to do it 'moist' and that is what I do. One of the best explanations I've read was posted by honedright in a thread years ago. Hold the razors spine in the non dominant hand, lightly touch the moistened thumb pad to the edge and sort of bounce from point to heel so that you don't slice your pad. You do kind of lightly pull the pad on the edge, but for a short distance, lest you open it up inadvertently. The thumb pad that is ....... That is the way I do it. Others may have their own thing.

I think it really is just a matter of whatever works for you and your own personal calibration. If you have access to DE blades, they can be helpful for training whatever body part you choose to use.

I also do it "moist" not soaking wet but the thumb pad is moist.
