Some people are more literal than others. A stroke in most instances would be considered a singular movement and that is how you took it. As said before it is a common mistake due to poor semantics. Also as already said, it is easily fixed.

Steel removal has to be equal on both sides of the edge for the razor to function properly. So pass/stroke or lap means the same. Pass is a lot less intuitive, and lap is more descriptive as to what it means.
I use pass almost all of the time when I talk about honing/stropping

All due respect to those who hone "Pyramid" and all...

But, it just seemed so much easier(and was/is) to do the monkey see monkey do method, and imitate a master. Thank you, internet!

Throw the "Pyramid" method away when talking to honing novices, I say.
