Struck razor gold... dollar

I must have angered the razor gods. I spent about 2 and a quarter hours setting the bevel on 2 razors:banghead:. 1 is a dorko and the other a bengall. Both need a little work but thought it would be much quicker. After getting through those 2 finally I got to the gold dollar I have corrected. Set the bevel in 5 flat nice and fine even bevel both sides. The gods must have been laughing there a**es out at me. Hope the 2 other gds I got at the same time are as good as they are intended for new guy's but realize my chances of it are slim. Rant over. :soapbox:

I bet you mean 2 & a quarter hours creating a bevel where there was none.

OZ the dorko I was shaving with but found a number of very small bites in the edge and it took a fair time to get them all out as more seemed to appear. I put that down to using a dmt when I first started honing. The bengall yes that needed more but had started on it already on a coarse stone in the shed to get a head start. There was I area at the very heel that took forever to come together though. The scratches were all the way to the edge but the sides weren't meeting. I have had razors need a bevel set from nothing or big chips but thought these would be quicker and easier. Goes to show what I know

Forgot to mention the gd was straight from the bench after correction, removing the wash and polishing and was the one I thought would need the most work.

DMT's wil do that to some razors & is why I prefer stones. If you're not getting a bevel quicker than that it could also be , hard steel, the stabiliser is interfering or your stroke is too heavy or more biased toward the spine.

Bengals can be pretty hard steel. I know a guy who Rockwell tested the tang on one that came up 62 HRC.

No both razors have no issues and the bengall almost no spine wear. Haven't used the dmt in a long time now but came back and bit me on that one I recon. Definitely didn't seem to be getting anywhere fast on either razor on the choosera 1k even with slurry. Honing went quickly enough after bevel was set was just a beast to set the bevels.
