Bevel question

I am only a month into this wonderful world of sharpening so please if anything seems self explanatory or this is a stupid question. Please take it easy on me... I'm pretty sure in using the proper terminology but the bevel on one side of the razor is wider then the other, like a lot wider. It is also the same from the heel to the toe.... The heels bevel is wider than toe, just want to know if this is a honing issue, if there is a way to fix the bevel or if it's completely normal and ok. I have been honing my razor on shapton 1k 5k 8k kitayama 12k shapton to 1 micron diamond paste to .5 micron diamond paste on the rough leather hanging strop. The only reason I'm explaining my setup is because I'm not sure if that's relevant to my issue.

A wide bevel in some regions can be due to excess pressure on your part or simply due to the grind of the blade. The bevel is a plane defined by the line of the spine and the line of the edge. In other words, the bevel is a matter of the geometry of the blade.

Welcome, photos would help diagnose your issue.

In general you may want to switch from diamond paste to, razor quality Chrome Oxide for smoothness and comfort.

How rough is your rough diamond paste strop? You may have more success with smooth leather, cloth or nylon, Chrome Oxide pasted strop.

Razors are not like knives, most are not perfectly straight, (especially Vintage Razors) and as a result bevels will not grind evenly. For a razor how a bevel looks, is not as important as how it shaves.

Need photos of the whole razor and especially the spine. The spine is the jig that controls the angle and edge.

So far, it does not look too bad.

Alright I'm taking the picture with my loop on the lens.... Should I just take the loop off and take a picture of the razor or should I just take pictures of sections with the loop

Don’t need super close up, yet, just the spine and spine wear on both sides and the heel on both sides.

As close as you can getting the whole razor in the pic.

No big issue just something to keep in mind for the future

also you just missed the big meetup in Denver last month but Blueman7 is organizing a small get together for CO members that you might really try and make..

Nothing beats face to face help :)

Hope to meet ya next year at the 7th annual Mile High Meet

Looking at the pics it looks like the heel of the razor is a little wonky you need to smooth up and re-contour that "Hook" before you go much farther..

I show how to do it rather easily and a few of my honing vids on a DMT :)

That sucks about missing the meetup I'll definitely be there next year... Also how do I find out about another small meetup? I would go for sure...

So the first set of pics was me honing at the 1k when I noticed the bevel being the only at it was. Yeah it's funny I was watching your video when you were helping pointing out mistakes on someone who had never honed before... Which by the way was a genius and was a lot of help... There is a video you have that explains how to fix what's going on with my razor? Do u have a link?

It looks pretty good really. I see how one side is wider than the other, but the bevel is very even. It looks to me like you would have no problem setting a good bevel and honing that razor as it is. The bevel being wider on one side shows that the edge is not centered on the grind. If the bevel is set now, I would not worry about it. If you have to reset the bevel anytime, you can put more work on the side with the narrow bevel to help center the edge on the grind. This does not have to be done all at once. I would just work towards that anytime you need to re set the bevel.
