That's a cool stone. For some reason I thought it was from the ol Preu mine but I could be wrong. Seems like I've seen it before on coticule.be.
I stay on my cotis on water longer than most have recommended above. I don't count strokes but I'd guess somewhere between 75-100 on a 6x2.
As for hybrid vs yellow, my edges are notably keener off the hybrid side, especially when I take the time to make a hybrid on hybrid slurry. But as always, YMMV

It's funny you've noticed that the hybrid side delivers a keener edge, while pithor says he didn't notice anything... I will have to test as well and chime in at a later date..
And last but not least thank you. I saw it and something inside my head said "you need this Scott" and I got it.. At the very least if I don't like it I can re sell/ trade.
I've heard other guys say they can't tell a difference between the two. Lots of different variables going on; different face, different whiskers, different techniques, etc.
Yeah that size is plenty big enough to work with comfortably. Circles should be a breeze.
I've had 8-10 les lats, most were from the ol Preu mine and two from regne. The coticule layer can vary quite a bit in hardness and speed but the hybrids seem to be very consistent.
IIRC Henk said the hybrid is made up of quartz that's less than 1 micron in size. The hybrid can be very slow on water so keep that in mind.
I think you'll really like it. There's no magic involved but they're cool stones and are easy on the eyes.

The mottled layer is combined with either one of two yellow layers, that perform slightly differently. I don't know about each layer's consistency though, I haven't tried that many Les Latneuses.Quote:

Does anyone know what is in these hybrid layers?(as they are called) I've heard Quartz and BBW. That doesn't look very blue to me lol.
In Henk Bos essay grinding and sharpening he says the hybrid is made up of chlorite and Quartz that's less than 1 micron in size. I don't have a link to it now but you can google it.
