The refresh went great. Both razors gave a great shave. The W&B, not so much. I'm sure there is a place near the heel where the bevel is not set so I'll try again. :gaah:

So is the pyramid honing method still good to use.. 5K -8K ..aftah the bevel is set ? Then how many strokes on the 12k...using Nawania SS ( sp) .. thanks....just wondering if someone re-invented the wheel ?
Setting the bevel on this W&B FBU...slow and sweet...take my time to establish a bevel of bliss...:)

The pyramid method, as I understand it, makes no sense. On the 12k I will do 10-20 strokes depending on how the blade acted on the other stones.
Makes me wonder just how much pressure some guys use when honing.
That apparent secondary bevel is me on 5k Chocera, no tape. The shiny part is the owner's work.
Ah well we all gotta start somewhere.

Couldn't wait to touch up a couple of razors on the S.R. Droescher Blue Thuringian (a Barbers Gem packaged by Escher, RezDog tells me) that I received from eBay today. First time I've honed in hand, and the job felt very comfortable.
I shaved with the Fili #13 DT tonight and will try out the T-I Oakwood on Sunday. Loved the smooth edge and had an excellent 3-pass shave on 3 day's of stubble.
Decided to do a SRP member Wolfpack finish on this razor, Coti followed by and Escher....after the Nani 12k, some time on the Coti, then a nice long walk on the Escher....another shave test tomorrow, and if it rocks it, then to some CROX to tighten it all up.

Interesting progression phrank.
Look forward to your shave test results!
Those are a couple of lovely rocks ya got there!
Sounds like a good combo to me Phrank, I've been playing with a odd progression of stones as of late, and have found it leaves a strong edge (not thin and chippy)
Bevel set: 1000 Chosera.
Washita: with oil.
Washita: water.
Barbers hone: water.
Thurigan: slurried, diluting to clear water.
Leaded linen strop.
Red Latigo.
Bridle.
Then either Roo, or Russian tanned to finish, depending on how the edge reacts to the Strop.
Honed up my Not a Replica again. It's now turned into my Escher test razor.
Did the Shapton 1/4/8/16k and then 150 laps on the Escher with plentiful water.
It was good fun using the Shapton's, it had been a long time..
(Yes that is a Jnat with a Tomo firmly stuck to it in the back ground)
