I seem to like 13K hones.Attachment 300392
I am not sure one is better then the next.
For refreshing a shaver I grab a 13K hone and give it
about twenty seconds of back&forth strokes each side
then about 40 normal honing strokes.
Strop and shave.
My oldest 13K Naniwa was the first hone that gave me a sharp as a feather edge
(but smoother).
I can no longer remember the English for this maker. It might have been an experimental test
batch but the price was a good one seven years ago or so.
My current habit is to almost never flatten my 13K but once or twice a year and just
use it. Remember, I am a shaver not a honemaster.
If I get a bad shave it is likely my lathering that is lacking.
Easy to test with a good fresh DE blade.
Fresh off the bench and hones.

Bevel set on 1000 Chosera with three layers.
Progressed to my Washita W/ water.
Coticule slurried with Thurigan, dilute to water.
Finished on BG Escher, slurry to clear water.
Couple solid performers.

Did a lubricant progression on my naniwa 12k. Water>damp>glycerin. Tried something similar with Smith’s and got a keen comfortable edge, though not significantly better than my normal finishing routine involving just water.
Cleaned up two (new to me) razors on saturday and honed them up today while watching the wildcard games. 13/16 half hollow frederick reynolds and 13/16 near wedge m. george & son. after bevel set on the chosera 1k i thought id go all jnat. Okudo (mid) and ogura (pre) followed by oozuku lvl5+ (finish).

Just got this monster 1"ish Erik Anton Berg off the bench, Naniwa 1k-12k to see how it performs.

5 synthetic hones lapped, but not the BG Escher (I never lap THAT! ;)) for tonight's honing treat.
2 John Heiffor Original British Razors in ivory which are unused. Should be fun! :D
