Geez, you guys are giving me an inferiority complex - What a beautiful bunch of steel!

Mk33 CVH, 13/16+ in ivory. This razor, a MK or Magnus Kindal, according to folks more knowledgeable than I, was a model made for export to the US between the wars. When WWII began in September 1939, imports of these great razors ceased and after the war, they were the Mk 133, 144, etc with straight tangs and plastic scales.

Visual inspection revealed an unhoned (or pasted) bevel and no detectable spine wear, so I began bevel set on a Shapton Glass HR 4k with 1mil Kapton, and saw that I would be a while so I went to a 2k Shapton Glass. That worked well and I did a back-and-forth between the two until I achieved visual bevel set with a Hastings 7x loupe, my fave. After a good visual off the 4k, I did a 10 canvas/20 cordovan stropping and the HHT toe, heel, and middle passed very well and consistently all along the edge. So I knew the bevel was perfectly set at 4k. Easy pie now.

The transition stone was a Nakayama kiita with diamond plate slurry. This stone is stupid fast on its own slurry (like a good suita) and can take an edge from 4k to ready to finish with ease. It can also finish better than most with light strokes on clear water, but I prefer the edge from the harder kiita with a Nakayama tomo.

Stropped 20 canvas, 35 suede, 65 cordovan and was rewarded with silent HHT root in or out, with the finest hair I could find.

I didn’t get to shave though, I lathered up, raised the razor, and the whiskers screamed in terror and jumped off my face! Lol.

    Cheers, Steve

I don't often covet that many razors this could be one of them.

Been playing with a couple stones off of ebay yesterday, got frustrated with my results so I picked up a blade I put away until my skills had gotten to this point. This was one of my first antique blades I purchased and looked nigh unused.

Ern No. 32, nice gold wash and tortoise scales. Naniwa 2k thru 8k (bevel was dang near bang on already and finished on my Escher.

All those beautiful stones and blades.. Here is am old beater that I am trying to touch up with a Honeyama (koppa). The blade was originally honed on synthetic stones to 12K. It has since started to tug so I put it on the JNAT.Name: DSC01583.jpg

I need to watch the scratch pattern more during the progression. I will comment on the shave tomorrow. Any helpful comments.

Dinnermint, Ireviously had one of those. Great razors, hard to find and man did I have to have a soft touch to keep from flexing that super thin grind.
