Yes, routinely I view the edge under a scope as I progress on the hones. From what I can tell, the bevel looks good, as does everything else. Yet, the bloody thing is not taking a very good edge. In fact, my friend, the great honing master, a legend of sort, really, indicated improper tempering as the problem, and that eventually if enough steel is removed, the problem might be resolved. Interesting thought.
