Should I pencil mark and lap them first?
Attachment 244523
yes. if they are out of flat by a lot do it twice. most are pretty quick to lap.
The 8k had a small drop on one corner, I left it but the rest of the stones look good. I am assuming the scratches are a by product of the lapping.
They do tend to get a little scratched during lapping, especially if your lapping plate is fairly course. If you set the bevel on a knife or similar item on your lapping plate it will tend to knock down the high grit and make it less scratchy. As long as they are not so deep that you can feel the with your razor they should be fine.
Cleaned it up a little and put it to the stones, finished up with .5 diamond spray on felt.
Overall the shave went pretty well. The heel end of the blade gave me a little problem and is not as sharp as the rest. I think maybe I didn't get the bevel good enough there. The rest of the blade treetops hairs on my arm and is very sharp. Against the grain near my goatee didn't work so well because of the heel but came in across the grain and got er done...
