I'm sitting here trying all the gymnastics I can figure out to get this warped Clements blade honed, and it finally hit me. The weight of the blade!
Now, I've read this over and over and been told it till it was coming out my back-side. BUT, I guess I was never really doing it. It just clicked tonight. I was cradling the scales in my open fingers/palm, holding most the weight in my hand, and the blade was just skimming over the stone with the lightest touch. Then it was a matter of controlling the contact of the edge with the stone.
I'd love the jump up and down and cuss for the next 5 minute on this forum but I will contain myself. :y
It all just came to me and I got a fine, keen edge on the blade and it was so easy after the bevel set. Just a simple resting in my hand and flip. Oh my god, I don't know how I was getting good edges before. Must have been lucky, as I was never going this lightly on the finishing stones before. Its taken over a year for it to get thru my damn thick skull, but I got it now. Wow! Like a light just went on in my head.
Now I got 70+ razors to rehone to get perfect. Ha. Just kidding. But at least now I won't be struggling anymore. I hope!
I just had to share this with you all. Thanks to the 10% beers I've been sucking on this evening, and for all the guys that just kept telling me the same thing over and over and over. I'd post up there names but the list would be too long! I think the beers must have helped clear my mind or something. LOL.
Thank you all for pounding it into my head. It finally sunk in.
