I would suggest try finishing with a slurry.
There is a chance that finishing on water could have a negative effect on all your work.
Ultimately only you can figure out your stone :)

I have all the.naguras but don't use them any more. I typically do a 1k to mid-range jnat to finish. A 1k to 5k to one Tomo should deliver. Simple but it works. if your shubo is like mine it has very pronounced feedback which is a good thing imo.
I totally agree.
Im also thinking a jnat and tomo is all that is needed. That is my plaan in the end. But figured id learn all these naguras so i could sell them off some day and upgrade. Seen a few nice stones on JNS for 5k. :rofl2:
Guess i need to listen to my stone. It never does get silent. Thanks for the hint. The things we forget when learning new stuff.
From the pics & what you say about the shaves you have a great pre-polisher which can give you a shave. You'll probably find it won't work for all razors tho & a 20k or harder finer Jnat will take the edge to the next level.
Simple fact is there's not many if any Jnats with particles as fine as a 20k. I found I could integrate both for the final finish, sometimes finishing on one or the other with 3 strokes or so. A 20k can also be cheaper than a top shelf Jnat finisher.
I get what your saying Oz. Thanks for explaining. I wont be spending big bucks on a jnat any time soon thats for sure. Thet sure can get spendy. My 20k was way more than i wanted to spend, but i had to have one.
I will say that in my experience, if you shave full face against the grain, fools pass, the whole shubang, then a full nagura progression on a quality jnat is unbeatable.
Just wanted to put that out there :)
Well, if you got a few good ones laying around not being used id be happy to help wear one out for a few years. Lol.
Dang-Now you guys have got me wanting another J-Nat. I keep drooling over Keith Johnson/TomoNagura's complete Shubodani JNat kits on Etsy-must be strong!
I did 3 passes on the 20K as Oz said. The keenness level jumped up like a rocket! 3 laps. I would never have thought it would take such a little amount to make such a big difference. Now, I feel its not a true Jnat edge but I learn something new. With this razor being my first real attempt to learn the Jnat it most likely wasn't as far as I could have gone to start with. So I think this was a great learning experience with only 3 laps. Hoping I will get some time in the next two days to do more testing and get more time on the Nagura/Jnat to take another step closer to understanding.
