the sooner you buy the coticule the sooner you can focus on your test...
Ok, here's what I'm thinking of getting: D8E Continuous Diamond 1200 and the 4x1.2 coticule. I have a pasted paddle from Tony with .5 micron on it that I can finish with.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Those hones should compliment your Norton nicely. Do you have a Norton flattening stone? If not, I highly recommend the DMT 325 for lapping. It makes the whole process painless and neat. Plus it leaves a great surface on the Norton... :)

But I don't have a Norton:shrug:
Oh, sorry about that. :)
In that case, these hones will give you great edges with some practice. You might want to get a cotigura rubbing stone, too, since you're not planning to get a Belgian blue. The cotigura will let you build a slurry on the coticule, which will help you get those 1200-grit scratches out faster.
I think you'll probably end up wanting the blue later, and ordering it now would save you on shipping... :)

i originally ordered the blue with my coticule, but then i my focus switched from collecting hones to minimizing the hone collection, so i had emailed Howard to drop the blue from my order. Well I ended up getting the blue in my package and asked Howard what we could do. He sweet talked me into keeping it and i don't think i'll regret it.
Meh, aced the test. It wasn't nearly what I thought it was. Everything was over policy and procedure, and I'm fluent in bureaucracy:D
Ok, so say I get a blue too. Do I still need the cotigura?
Bumpity :D:w
The cotigura is pretty much essential, in my opinion. It is necessary if you don't get the blue, because you'll want to make a slurry on the coticule to polish out the coarse scratches.
You'll also want to make a slurry if you get the blue, because the blue is painfully slow otherwise.
You could make a slurry with the yellow on the blue; since the yellow is harder, it won't wear too much.
But I vote for the cotigura. :)
