To Learn Honing--Norton set or barber hones?

I want to start learning how to hone, but i'm not sure what the best thing to start with is. I have a norton set (4k/8k, 220/1k, flattening stone) on backorder at rockler, but i just saw a post about a newbie having good results with a barber hone and came across this page http://www.redtrader99.com/hones.html . would i be better off purchasing one of the hones or sets there rather than the nortons to learn on? if so, which one wouldyou more knowledgable folks recommend?

I love barber hones, I think they are the greatest things around, but, I would lean more toward a single 4/8K Norton for learning (the 1K/220 is just a beni). The only big reason is that you have a better support service here for the Norton series and can ask and receive questions easier.

I think, from unscientific observation, that most people that have success with barber hones seem to have more experience than the average beginner.
