Hi, my question is ..If I'm honing on the Norton 8K. Why finish on the
Belgian Yellow Coticule which is also an 8K grit. Can anyone explain this to me.I watched Lynn do this but couldn't figure out why. Thanks. :shrug:

I think its because he prefers the way the shave feels afterward.
The Belgian coticule is often rated at 8K, but it actually functions like a higher grit hone, somewhere in the 10K range. A coticule will smooth out the edge you get from a Norton 8K, making it more comfortable.

Well, I think the Coticule is around 5-6K grit, and the Norton 8K is way finer. You can tell that by the reflection on the bevel. After the Coticule, it looks mate, and you can easily tell the grit marks. After the N8K, it looks like mirror polish.

Yes;
Same for me...with slurry and then with water. It improves the Norton finish and feel.
So if you had a new razor, could an experienced honemiester just use a Norton 4k/8k then bypass the coticule and just paste strop and regular strop have that new razor "shave ready".
Yes

In my experience, the pasted strops work fast enough that you can leapfrog from 8K to 50K without much trouble. You do need to have a decent edge going on the 8K, but that would be true of a coticule as well.
That said, I hone all my edges on a coticule before the shave test. Sometimes I'll add a few laps on the pasted strop afterward, but not unless the razor passes the shave test from the coticule first. :)

he is putting a grit rating on his pastes.
1.0 being around 8k
0.5um being round 25k'ish
0.25um being around 50k'ish.
to reaffirm what others said, you definitely can go from a 4/8k norton to pastes. no problem.
that being said, if im soaking stones in the first place ill soak all mine and use them all the way up. i use my pastes for quick touch-ups when i don't wanna take the time/mess/cleanup of using stones. personally i like the feel of stones.

Ok thanks for clarifying. 0.25um = roughly 50k grit paste.
