Can anyone tell me about these particular hones as they have been haunting my thoughts ever since I heard mention of them? Are they available anywhere? would they be suitable for setting a bevel? and anything else you might like to add!

It's a medium-grit (4-5K) natural Scottish hone, faster (in my humble opinion) than the Tam and the Belgian blue. This makes it a superb stone for removing scratches left from bevel creation, but it's still nowhere near fast enough to actually set a bevel.
Joe Chandler is the only honemeister (actually the only other person here period) I know who uses it. He's honed hundreds of razors so his opinion's not so humble; maybe he'll come in here and say whether my description of the Dalmore is accurate.
I think the Dalmore is also a very beautiful stone, dark blue-gray with thick swirls. If I ever get around to replacing my damn digital camera I'll post a picture.
Well I was supposed to have an order coming but alas have heard nothing from the mine owner , as to him Im not sure. As Dylandog says they are a faster cutting stone and are really pretty, the prettiest I have seen was Tony Millers, his had 2 shades of blue.
And yes Joe is the authority on the use of them.

I did a demo for a guy who came over using a really old str8 that was dull. I showed him the edge under magnification and then did 3 passes with the DMT8000 grit diamond stone. The difference was amazing! It didn't need much more than that to reset the bevel and take the edge to the next stone (coticule).
If a razor is really dull and has nicks, I use the DMT1200. Diamonds cut fast.
BTW, if anyone is interested, the yiddish word for nick is "begeema". This was told to me by a rabbi who teaches sharpening to kosher slaughterers (schechters).
Thanks for all the replies! If anyone finds a stash of these and wants to sell one or two could you give me a PM, or just mention it in this thread?
well so far the only TOS and combos i have gotten has been from australia, keep an eye out on that ebay site...many were shipped there.....will keep you posted
simon
Have you cornered the market over there as the razor hones werent the only things they sent there.....they also made a half-pipe looking hone..
But as regards not returning..isnt that what they said about the early white settlers?...lol
Keep an eye out for them Jimbo, g'day

Hey Simon! While you're here tell us about that wee discovery, ay?
I've made a wee discovery of my own, which is that the charcoal gray "Water of Ayr" stone is a superb finisher as long as you've got the patience to do 100+ strokes.
where would i find one of these finishing stones the water of ayr
If anyone knows of either the Dalmore Blue or Water of Ayr I am interested in both.
Coully, I am also interested in whateverthat little bit of info you had was....
well water of ayr hones were produced...a long long time ago by the same company...i recieved with my last order 4...8 inch dalmore blues...as regards setting a bevel it may but a 1000 norton would be faster as i have tried it.
Someone has already said that e-bay is the only place you will finf a water of ayr hone so that is true....and as a finishing stone yes i guess it would work but again slowly...
If you have a TOS you will know how it works and appreciate its operation in the grand scheme of things.....i still havent heard from my supplier even after repeated calls...dont think he has snuffed it though but one can never be too sure,,,,keep your fingers crossed and maybe an invoice will come..im still hopeful as he is a one man outfit....
