4000/8000 grit Norton Waterstone?


Can someone please direct me to a link or video on the subject at hand. I have a tutorial on instructables.com (which has been viewed over 14,000 times) and want to make sure that i'm delivering the correct information to the people. thus far, i have not come across a definitive step-by-step answer to this question. information is so scattered by various good opinions. if we could centralized all of the techniques to one magnum opus, then i believe we will achieve great sucess in bringing the process of straight razor shaving to the masses. let's come together at this most pressing hour.

That would be the honing section in Lynn's "World of Straight Razor Shaving" DVD. I believe that someone is in the process of posting it to YouTube (with his permission) as we speak.

It will likely be fairly different because Lynn uses the "pyramid method".

I must agree with Gugi, the information in your tutorial is more likely to cause harm than good.
If you wish to have the advice of the experts here, you need to be prepared for criticism, and willing to learn.
It seems to me you are coming here for praise, and are not interested in the best ways to do things.

My honest opinion as a person who hones and shaves with straight razors is that you need to erase that tutorial and start over.

There is too much wrong to try to identify everything.

I'm sorry if this seems harsh, or you were hoping to hear differently, but it is the truth.

Now having said that, if you want to learn you are in the right place, and we are all willing to help.

I second/third that opinion. I just couldn't think of a good way to say it. Now, I don't have to.

Those videos are not as bad as some, but if you really want to educate the masses, they need to be pulled. The time to teach is after you know how to do something. Clearly you doubt their quality yourself or you wouldn't be asking about proper technique after making them.

In your defense, kudos to you for asking and being open to getting more information.

step 1 - will not touch

setp 2 - will not touch

step 3 - will not touch

step 4- just updated it with all of your advice

step 5 - my stropping technique works for me. don't know how it could be wrong at this point.

steps 6-10 on the tutorial i will not touch, it's the most comprehensive pdf i have found on the internet which deals with the complexities on how to shave, it's not even my own words and i explicitly stated that in the tutorial. the pictures are great and it gives people a sense of the motions needed to take place during the shave; i explained to the people that i mostly learned how to shave from watching people on youtube.

step 11 - i'll probably erased and add some things.

That's definitely not the best source of information. Lynn has honed over 8000 razors on a Norton 4K/8K so I would check out his DVD/YouTube videos.
