I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that with the help of Tony (richardhead) I have finally been able to post the honing clinic from the Southern California Straight Razor Get Together. those are great vids. i have worked my way through them over the last few days.
one of the things i learned at the dallas meet up and you emphasized so well, was developing the edge on the 1000. kenrup mentioned to us that after a bevel is set, i think that he said he gets a shaving edge in 10 min on a good razor. i thought no way.
so i changed my blade stroke. lighter touch, more consistent stroke, and really focused on setting the bevel. the next few blades i honed came up to shave ready so much faster when i moved to the 4k.

btw, currently, i use a king 880 to set my bevel. i have a king 4000 on the otherside of that(880/4k combo). when i start after the bevel, i use the king 4k and the norton 8k so that i don't keep flipping my norton. then dry coticle on a paddle, cro ox on paddle, 30 laps on leather on paddle, and then 50-100 laps on hanging strop. this is working well for me. but i am still adjusting and learning. isn't that what it is all about?
