At present, all I have (other than the ubiquitous Smith Tri-Hone) is the D8EE. I think I'll make the next one the Shapton 16.

Do Shapton stones have to be lapped? I noticed the Shapton lapping systems are high dollar.
They have to be lapped, but a DMT C will do just fine
Edit:
Here's a thread about lapping options.
Thank you.
or u can go with a 12k chinese 2 by 8 for $20 at woodcraft,i think a lot of guys here use it after an 8k hone, so many options with honing it seems endless. i have been thinking about the shapton 8k and 16k very seriously, and selling my spydercos here
Thanks! I ordered the Chinese 12K with the Nortone Lapping stone. When it arrives, my hone set will consist of DMT8EE, Chinese12K, and Norton lapping stone, and the Smith Trihone, which I don't thing will ever touch a razor blade lol.
The Chinese 12k is just about the best bang for the buck, and since you have a diamond plate already, starting a slurry on it would be no problem (cuts very slowly without a slurry).
Jwoods, if you decide to sell your spydercos I would be interested in buying them.
I am not so sure that the norton flattening stone is a good choice for lapping the chinese one. Anyone had any experiance with that?
I know that I tried it a bit, and found that a D8C was a much better choice.
It seems real nice for laping norton hones, and it certainly worked on my swatty, but it felt better with the D8C.
