A Honer's Lament: The Clauss Struggle



There once was a Clauss that just wouldn't hone,
Its pits would vanish, and reappeared all alone.
All day long on the 1k I did toil
Setting the bevel and ensuring the edge was not foil

Back and forth I did go, not removing enough,
The hone polished black from metal and stuff
I cared not nor fretted the dreaded over-hone
But just when the microscope said I was done I was cut to the bone

The pits would appear, just out of thin air
one minute they were gone, but now I despair,
I polished through 4k, 8k and coticule
but back to the microscope: it said it was bull

The pits they were back,
All shiny not black
The edge still crumbling
Making me look like a hack!

But try as I might, on the 1k I did
Those darn pits would vanish, and reappear, I don't kid!
It might be my undoing, I'll throw away my hones,
If this darn thing doesn't shave, after hours on the stones!

So back to the table, my fingers like prunes,
From water on the Norton, they're wrinkled like dunes.
One day I'll get it, I will, that's my quest,
Not only get it sharp, but to shave with the best!

Until then I leave you with this sad long tale,
I hope in a few days time with success to regale
Of triumph and battle, fought hard and then won,
When this Clauss passes the ultimate test of my thumb!

And shaves whiskers off without so much as a care
Like hot knives through butter ATG I do dare!

If I was as poetic as you were and had the same problem and if....that problem never seemed to resolve, I'd have to add some finishing lines in there about how my razor found its way tomahawk style into my basement wall.:rock:

A Clauss is worth it so hang it there and get 'er done!

Utopian, that's the poem's meter I was copying - very good ear!
