    Default marker test

Just recieved my brand new dovo prima klang. performed the marker test and honed on fine hone the heal and toe on both sides are making contact for a change but the weard thing is only on one side just of the middle the maker is not being removed. what do i do do i go back to 1k and hone away untill marker is removed or just use the rocking motion any advice would be help ful. i would say the amount of edge not making contact is about half a centermetre.

It sounds like a small inconsistency in the grind of the blade. It's probably just a fraction of a hair thinner on that different to reach spot. (I am understanding correctly that one side makes good contact and the other has a slight depression in the middle, right?)
I would do as you suggested, going to the 1K, but I'd tape the spine first. After the situation is resolved, I would remove my tape and hone on the 1K till the bevel is good without the tape.

I've honed an ERN with the weirdest warp near the tip, a few days ago. I took me many laps till the bevel was good along the entire edge, and all my gathered honing confidence to tell myself I'd get there eventually. And I did.

    Good luck,
    Bart.

Yes just as you described the bevel is'nt exactly the most even to look at even though it is a very thin bevel any way i have just 1k'd with the norton and eventualy the bevel as started to apear only the very edge i did'nt use the tape but that is agood tip i will probably go back and repeat with the tape i must say that the razor shaves perfect i just though i'd run it over the coticule and thats when i noticed the oneside not making contact the other side oposite is making contact and has quite a fat bevel when trying to get the bevel back on 1k would you use x pattern

The tape is just to protect the spine from wear while doing more than the normal honing job.
Yes, I always do the X-stroke, unless I'm really rebuilding an edge, starting as low as 325 girt, but by the time I'm finalizing the shape of the bevel, I'm already back on the low pressure X-strokes.
I hardly ever meet a blade that makes perfect contact with the hones without the X-stroke.

Maybe an obvious remark, but do note that it's not the low spot that you need to focus upon, but the high spots. If the bevel is smaller on that side of the blade (which wouldn't surprise me), it's perfectly ok to hone a bit solely on that side for a while.

    Best regards,
    Bart.

Yes. At Dovo they cut a bevel at the razors by pressing it against a spinning dish. It's not unlikely that one side received a bit less attention, leaving it slightly smaller and not completely flat yet. The slight depression is in the smaller bevel side, yes?

I always try to aim, within reason, for equal bevel panes.

Yes the bevel on one side in particular the area that is not contacting the hone is where it thins out the bevel is not uniformed at all i think its bad realy when you consider these are 112 sterling pounds don't get me wrong it shaves realy good and does sound bril but when you come to hone and touch uthe razor it would be a waste of time because its not going to make full contact i reckon i could get with time get the bevel looking a lot better but for the sakes of 20pounds i think i will send this one out to be honed by some one who realy no's his stuff then at least i will be able to maintain the razor my self

That's certainly no razor to fumble and learn with. But you asked, so I answered.
I could do it for you, but since you're in the UK, you'd be better off contacting Poonah, or one of the other UK based guys that offer such services.

It's sad that they can't do better quality control at Dovo.

    Happy Holidays,
    Bart.
