post-tumbler honing

I recently ran a medium hollow ground razor through a brass tumbler using Glen's suggested procedure on another thread. While it cleaned up the razor rather well, it left the edge very dull.

So far, I've put the razor through about 50 laps on the DMT1200 and I'm still only pulling arm hairs. Any comments as to how many laps on the 1200 I should expect to have to do before going to the 8K?

I'm also wondering if I should have taped the spine and first gone a few laps on the DMT325 before hitting the 1200. Comments?

Stay on the 1200 until the entire edge passes the TNT and marker test simultaneously. Then use the 8000 until the entire edge passes the TPT.

It's ok to use a layer of tape throughout, or temporarily, to protect the spine. Your call.

I only use the 325 for major repairs or lapping. It will speed up your "bevel" honing.

On spun blades, you have to do a little extra work to get the bevel reset, Like Sticky said make sure the entire bevel is sharp before moving up in grit, don't shortcut the bevel or it will just cost you more work later...
I usually put 2 layers of tape on the blade and do about 20-30 laps on a Norton 220 just to establish a pre-bevel then drop to 1 layer of tape (optional) and go to a Norton 1k (your 1200) and set my bevel...After that go to what ever your standard honing procedure is....
