coticule base
I have two coticules yellow. One selected bout from in visable edge which has a black slate base which is normal. The other one is a small kosher from rob of ardennes the other coti is also from ardennes. The kosher has a blue purple base and whilst laping the corners and sides i noticed purple slurry so i laped the under neath and it is relaesing purple slurry so i can only persume it could bbw. i have copared it to my actual bbw that have and it does'nt seem the same in texture. it looks exactly the same as the yellow coticule but a differant colour when the light reflects the kosher you can see like little speckles and the base also purple with little speckles.

I think you've got a natural combo there, Gary. Vintage cotties of a certain age were physically bonded to the BBW base just as the recently mined cotties are bonded to slate. It sounds like in your case you have a natural combo. Enjoy!
I have an 8"x3" natural combo. The BBW side is unique because it's a hybrid between a true BBW and the coticule. It's a lighter purple and has fewer visible garnets. It's as though the coticule mud mixed with the BBW more than usual. As a result, it behaves cutting wise somewhere in between a BBW and a coticule which is kind of cool. Incidentally, also on this stone, the coticule side is a very nice olive color rather than yellow. Hard as all get out and polishes very well. Very cool stone.
Yours may be similar in that regard.
