Stone identification...

Can someone, please, identify this stone...

It is very old, I got it from my GF's father...
His grandfather used to hone his razor with it...
It looks like natural stone because I can see it's structure and it doesn't look homogeneous like my synthetic hones...
It is very small, it measures just 5" x 0,9" x 0,3"...
It feels way finer than mine 6k hone, IMHO it could be around 10k...
It also produced a black slurry when it was lapped...
I tried to hone my razor with it and got very nice and sharp shaving edge, without the need to polish it on CrOx...

What could this mysterious stone be?:thinking:

Perhaps you have yourself a vintage Thuringian hone??? At first it looked kind of like a belgian blue, but it wouldn't make a black slurry... Is the slurry dark black, or is it more of a deep purple?

Even if you don't know what it is, it sounds like it does a wonderful job on your razors, and isn't that what it's all about?

The slurry is black as night (without the street lights)...:D
Yes, it really is all about getting a smooth edge...
But you know that feeling, when you know that you got something priceless as a gift?:w

That's a bada$$ looking hone. If you have any woodworking skills (or woodworker friends) you should get a custom box made entirely out of ebony. That would look incredibly awesome.

Well, I was thinking about it...
My father was woodworker and I have a lot of tools at home...
And some skills too...:)
I was thinking of mahogany or maybe oak, just for contrast...
If I make it, I'll certainly upload pics...

I'm sure any nicely made box will enhance the appearance even more. I just can't stop thinking about a Stealth Bomber Hone.

My guess is that it's a slate stone of some form. The important thing is that it works, so, cool.

Sounds like a slate stone to me. Especially if it slurries easily.

My guess would be slate too, the slurry color says it all. The size is deceiving, because a lot of vintage thuris were made in this size, but I have never seen a thuri/escher with black slurry.
