Has anyone used marble to hone with? I was looking through the 9th edition of "Exercises inPhysical Geology" and found a picture of unfinished marble, and the texture and color look strikingly similar to my hone!

I believe these stones may be soft Arkasas or more likely Wa****a. A pourus enough stone to suck up a hundred years of dirt and oil but too hard to work with. I tried belting a couple of suspect stones in the hopes they would reveal their true colors but it just wore out the belts and it http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/pickin/MVC-785F.JPG
smelled like flint. I'm not fond of the Arkansas family of stones.
Thanks beenpickin! I think I know what I own now!!
