The Stone

That price translates to 33,437.25 U.S. dollars, but it is probably the only stone that you will ever need and it is probably so perfect that it will last as long as the mine has been in operation.

Just thought I share. Think we could get a group buy and pass it around?:hmmm:

$33,437.25 USD???? That would be over $42, 000 CAD for me!!!! That's simly ridiculous, you can pay to have your own honemeister servant for that much money....

The price of that stone does not reflect how it performs though I'm sure it performs very highly but you could get a stone for a tiny fraction of the price that does just as good. It really reflects its scarcity. Most who use a stone like that would be people who would never use it but get it for a collection which is very popular among a certain segment in Japan. Possibly a true master swordsmith might use it but otherwise most wouldn't care to risk damaging or wearing it down.

I've been scouring the classifieds, but have not yet found a honemeister servant. I was thinking that a butler that went and apprenticed with Lynn or one of the other masters for a while would be nice....

I was talking with a hone collector about that the other day. The "most beautiful stone" thread got us on the topic. There is a three thousand dollar rock shown in that thread. Another that is for the advanced collector with deep pockets that will probably never be used but only admired for rarity and beauty. Not my thing but different strokes.

That is why I'm not opening the door to the Japanese hones. I have more $$ in Eschers, coticules, Shaptons and Nortons then I even want to think about. Not to mention Scottish hones and barber hones. :gaah:

Why not Jimmy? It sounds like the japanese is one of the last major hurdles you lack in completing your hone varieties. I mean, as long as you're 80% of the way why not finish?
