actually number's made up generally help.Think about it .it will depend a lot more factors steel.pressure and many more factors .if you are new best will be by microscope and check the edge what are you doing.it will help a lot.good luck
The concept of the Pyramid seems to carry over to other stones as long as they are of the same brand, or very similar in cutting speed. Don't know about the Naniwas (yet) but it holds up with my Shaptons. You might need to make some adjustments, but since the pyramid method allows for a certain amount of "hone, test, repeat", overall it should work fine. Of course, I'm no honemeister, so take this as absolute Gospel until someone who actually knows what they are talking about comes along to set us both straight.:D
I've played around with doing pyramids on a Shapton pro 5k and 8k and did alright with them. It seems to me that if it is a synthetic stone the grit should be standardized and the same principle that applies to doing pyramids with the Nortons should apply to other man made hones as well. The pyramid method and one example of a conservative and an aggressive pyramid are here in the SRP Wiki with good instructions on how to use it.
