is this the type of sand paper I could use to lap a stone...such as the naniwa super stones.
That is comparable to the one I use from a german manufacturer.
You'll need quite a bit of the 320
and some finer grades once you're done with flattening.
By Norton wet sandpaper I assume the site means wet/dry sandpaper. That's the exact same stuff that I've used, and it works very well. I've never lapped the naniwa stones, but you're likely to want a finer grit to smooth the surface a little. 320 will work just fine for flattening, but maybe something like 600 grit or possible higher would leave the stone with a smoother surface.
I've lapped most of my stones, nortons/coticules/thuringians using just the 600 as my final step and it seemed to work fine. The higher grits that site offers are 600, 800, 1200 and 2000. Somethinbg like 2000 would be overkill IMO, but maybe 800 or 1200 would leave a nice finish. Experiment! That's half the fun.:D
I use wet sandpaper to lap my stones...
I use a 1000 grit as a final lapping grit.
Use a couple of grits in between. It is a big jump from 320 to 1000.
