Hi all,
I saw this at a website. I thought I would pass it on. It is a website called oldtools or something like that and they had a copy of the Franz Swaty instructions.

I've added this to the wiki help files section for now. The website you linked appears to allow personal use/not-for-profit distribution of the materials on that files page
Thanks for the link, there is a lot of cool stuff over there
Hey this is great stuff. I'm about to score a Swaty off the bay. It looks to be in good condition, but do these things need to be lapped? The seller is not an expert -- I think he's just selling old vintage stuff.
I don't have a lapping plate, so I'd have to send it out if the answer is "yes".
Thanks in advance,
Ogie
Ogie: go to the tile section of lowes, get a granite tile - 12" x 12" for 5 bucks. Go to an automotive store or Walmart, or wherever and get wet/dry sandpaper, the variety pack is good.
Go home. Wet the tile. Stick the lowest grit paper you have on the wet granite. Wet the paper. rub rock on sandpaper. Rinse and reapeat. Draw a grid pattern all over the face of the swaty, using 1/2" between the lines. rub swaty until lines are gone. Rinse and repeat one more time. Congratulations, you can now lap whatever the heck you want. And it will be so flat that not a single soul would ever be able to detect any non-flatness if you handed them a razor and your rock. It'll be our little secret.
sweet link
glad it got put in the Wiki !!
