I have a 15K Shapton along with my 4X8K Norton. I also have handamerican hones with .5M and .25M paste. I have been going from the Norton to the 15K to the .5m to the .25 before hitting the strop. Is it possible that I am doing too much and should stop after I get a good grab on my thumb with the 15K?

Also when I look under the microscope what should I see if I have a wire edge? I can see the striations and they are in black. just above them is a very shinny edge. Does that mean that the razor is getting sharper or that I have just developed a wire edge?

David Uthe posted some pictures of a wire edge a while back. It was very instructive. I do not know where the are now.

It does not sound like you have a wire edge unless its not shaving well.
