Interesting looking stuff. .5 micron? I saw a place online where you can buy a pound of .3 micron cerium oxide for less than $25 if I recall correctly. I have not ordered any yet and would have to dig up the link.

I have some of these sheets and they can be purchased at Japan Woodworking.
The Japan Woodworker Catalog - Water Proof Sharpening Film
As a courtesy to all, this is what I found recently. I haven't ordered from this company, it's merely a result of Google searches.

I'm actually not sure but they are very good and I can tell you I used these a lot before buying my first hones and they worked very well and gave the razors a very nice edge.
You could give them a call and see if they are Cerium Oxide.
Gunner777 and ChrisL, thank you very much.
Gunner777, I'm pretty sure that's the lapping film I have, too. It's really good stuff. Some guys have been talking about Cerium Oxide a lot lately, so I'm curious about it and trying to find a source of it on a lapping film, in a paste, and in a powder, all at the .20-.50 micron size range.
Thanks to ChrisL, I now have a source of the powder. Now if I can just find a place that carries the 3M .50 micron cerium oxide lapping sheets.
Glad I could help. That's what I'm here for.;)

My pleasure also--that's why this is such a great place plenty of people to help out.
I'd be interested to see how this performs against the diamond and aluminum oxide films I've been using.
When my last set of diamond films were worn out, I decided to try the aluminum oxide as a cheaper alternative down to .3 micron. I can say they put a scary sharp, mirror polished edge on anything. I've not met a razor that the film can't whip into shape.
I get mine from thor labs and for $30, I got 10 full sheets (13"x9") of 3, 1 and .3 micron films. I still use 6 micron diamond film to set the bevel, but that isn't hardly needed. They are all very fast cutters.
:OTbut I just ordered a couple of these.... https://www.rshughes.com/products/051111_56138.html
Diamond 0.1 micron sheets. It's all Seraphim's fault.
I just ordered this. https://www.deltaonelapidary.com/detail.php?id=341 High quality Cerium oxide in a spray bottle for $9. Not sure what shipping is. It should be here any day now and I will report here when I test it.

BJ thanks for sharing that. I want to try some myself but didn't know where to get it now I do--thanks!
I received it yesterday and tried it on four razors so far. I shaved with one of them but it is too early to make a comparison that is objective. It seemed as smooth as the CrO but like I said more testing is necessary. You will notice the CeO has settled to the bottom of the bottle and starts settling soon after shaking but also mixes easily. You get a whole quart spray bottle so it should last for years.
My bill including shipping was $21.21 so it looks like shipping is about $12.

BJ that's a huge bottle and pretty cheap even with the high shipping cost. It will be interesting to see how it works out over time when you can make a comparison with CroX. The diamond spray also has a tendency for the particles to drop to the bottom and requires you to shakes the bottle well before you use it
Thanks
