Is a Norton 4/8k enough?
hey, my razors are only slightly dull and i have a norton 4k/8k. Do i need to do the full pyramid as described by lynn earlier or would that be too much? Also, is the 8k fine enough for a good shave or do i need to spend more money on another hone?! Thanks

Lynn recomend a 3/3 1/5 1/5 for touch ups it may take 1 or 2 to three trips to the hone but it will work i do it my self and then go to coticule but you can shave of the 8k norton and get an exallant shave an extra hone will polish more may glide a little better and feel smoother only if you have a good ede of your 4k 8k when good move to polisher. And remember when touching up a good edge less strokes are better you can always go back and try some more untill your happy .

I have been told that the norton pyramid finished with a CrOx treated linen strop gives a fairly decent and smooth shave.

Actually you can start with just the 8k with no pyramids for a first try. Do maybe 5 to 10 strokes and see what that does. As Gary pointed out, it's better to hone less, so you can do minimal honing sessions taking less than a minute, and then strop and shave and see how it shaves. If it needs more, then do a few of the lowest pyramid steps in your next honing session. Basically you can use the same strategy I keep promoting with barber hones. Rather than doing one possibly over-aggressive honing session, you can do a few mini ones over the course of a few days. Over time, you will get a better sense of what your razor needs for the next touch up so later you will probably be able to dial it in with a single honing session.
