Is all chromium oxide the same?

In other words is this (Amazon.com: Chromium Oxide Green Pure Pigment 1 ounce jar: Home & Garden) the same as any other chromium oxide that is used on linen strops?

I'm not sure, but I went the safe route and just picked up a packet from ChrisL in the classifieds. Its $4 delivered to your door and is enough to keep a strop pasted for about as long as you plan on owning it.

That appears to be CrOx powder intended as a colorant for some kind of artistic use. It could be OK or it might contain an unacceptable amount of impurities. The same problem exists for the CrOx sold by Woodcraft. I would stick with a reputable vendor of straight razor supplies rather than taking a chance that you might gat something unsuitable for use on a razor.

I used both powder and crayon that srp sells which i got from livi him self they both work very well i'd go with hand american liquid or powder or the the crayon form from livi meastro if your aplying to canvas the powder when mixed with neats foot oil is ideal for the leather or canvas or balsa

Just so you know, CrO is kind of like SIC grit or most other loose abrasives, it comes in different grit sizes. I think you can get it as large as like 5 micron (maybe, not sure about that). Pigment wont have any regularity to the grit size, as far as I know. Anyway, Chris' stuff is what you want. Or the crayon.

Most CrO is used by rock polishers so its optimized for that purpose with other ingredients mixed in. You need the pure stuff the right size grit wise.

I have used Crox from several different suppliers. The best I found was the one from Handamerican, and I use it exclusively on the Hard Balsa Strops I sell. Because of its purity, 99.9%, it seems to be more agressive , requiers less product be applied and last's much longer than the others. Just my personal opinion and observation. UMMV.

the chromium oxide with regard to purity. Ours is 99.9% pure, and is guaranteed not to exceed 0.5 micron in particle size. The range is actually 0.3 to 0.5.

Our paste is guaranteed to be 75% pure chromium oxide, it's usually higher. Most of the wax sticks range from 5 - 15% chromium oxide.

We've purchased from the same USA manufacturer for well over ten years.
