uneven spine wear - is .018" too much?

I just measured the spine on my razor with some calipers, and it is about 18 thousandts thicker near the heel than the tip.

I bought this razor new about 8 months ago, and I learned to hone on it (read: I incorrectly honed it several times before getting it right).

Have I ruined this blade? Should I or could I try aggressively honing the heel of the spine to flatten it?

I shave with it almost every day, and in my opinion (based on rather limited experience) I think I have the edge pretty good. But when I hone it, as I lightly put my fingers on the blade to put the edge into contact with the hone, the tip of the spine rises off the hone by about a hair's width.

I really don't know if that little bit of a difference will hurt it or not but if you're concerned you could slap a piece of elec. tape over the tip of the spine while honing until it evens up.

this is my take on your problem.is this a big problem? answer is yes and no . no because it is not a big deal and can be fixed easely. Yes because you have done it.if you wont fix your honing you will hone every single razor you hone wrong.that is why try fix your honing problem. Now how to fix current problem.put tape onle toward to the tip lower part of the back and leave rest open util your edggets straight.as sson as it is straight back of the blade should be even.hope this helps
