I have a coticule stone thanks to a deal from Lee here on the forums. I have been doing a lot of reading as of late about how to use these stones to their fullest and I want to try some slurry I think. My problem is I don't have a slurry stone. So, can I make slurry without a slurry stone? :confused:
you can by using wet/dry sandpaper
Or a diamond plate like DMT or Atoma
I would not recommend Sandpaper unless you use the really coarse or the extremely fine ones.
Sandpaper will most likely loose abrasives that mix up with the slurry rendering it useless.
A DMT sharpening card is a way to create a pure slurry on any stone.
They are small and handy, I have one in 1.2k and it cost me 20
But these things leave scratchmarks on your hone.
I would recommend contacting a coticule vendor
asking specificly for a small Coticule for slurry creation.
Usually these donīt cost much, I got mine for free with the hone.
I am sure you can get something way under 20 Bucks delivered

ive used 3M wet/dry sandpaper to create slurry and succesfully reset the bevel on some razors etc
it worked just fine
I would use a good quality DMT C and not a cheaper polycrystaline Diamond hone. I have felt a gritty sensation after trying a cheaper one that I bought for that purpose. How much it will hurt what you are doing might not be an issue to you but I did not like the feel.

So what I am hearing either way I have to buy something. Whether that is sandpaper, a dmt or a slurry stone. I guess I may as well get a slurry stone.
