Thuringian Finisher
Greetings gents.
I recently scored an embarrasingly cheap 'the celebrated water razor hone'(125mm x 25mm) on ebay and am planning to use it as a finisher after my dmt(c) followed by norton 1k, 4k, and 8k progression. I would love to hear from anybody who is using or has used similar progressions in honing their razors that could provide any inspiration for me in my pursuit of taking it all to the next level. Pros, cons, jokes or death threats.. bring em on.
Thanks guys,
Mykel:tu

I recently acquired a Thuringian Escher. Its awesome, I use it after the Belgian coticule. Previously I was using a barber hone as a finisher as it had a higher grit than the coti. The Escher wipes the floor with it.

Are you sure it's 12.5mm wide? That's really narrow. I think 5 x 1" (12,5 x 2,5 cm) was a standard size for small thuringen stones.
Please post a picture when the stone arrives.

I think he must be referring to the thickness of the stone, not its width, although I could be wrong!

You can use it after 8k norton . There is only you have to pay a lot attention to norton . Your blade should be shave ready before you move to thuringian. hope this helps.
by the way nice stone.

Congrats, on your recent thuringian. They are absolutely nice finishers.
I have used mine, after my 8k shapton or coti or even my translucent arkansas.
Play with it and after awhile you will learn what works best as far as number of lap, etc...following various types of steels you apply to it.
Thanks,
Mac

Yeah that was a mistake. It is, in fact, about 25mm wide. Too much Penfolds Sangiovese last night:o I will edit above to avoid confusion.

Congrats Mykel.
As Sham said get it perfect on the 8k & then move to the Thury.
You should get great shaves.
