Questions about 1 of Lynns honing tips.....

Josh Earl has a post in it are 2 links Lynns tips 1 and Lynns tips 2. In the link Lynns tips 1 he makes mention while doin an 4k/8k pyramid he strops and test shave with each rotation. I just started using this advice and I swear that the stropping inbetween each rotation is helping me achieve a much sharper edge than I was previously getting. Im not very experienced in honing. I thought the stropping was done in between rotations for the purpose of polishing the edge for the test shave. Is the stropping in between rotations truely helping me achieve a better edge or am I just improving with my honing.

IME stropping always improves an edge and ,as recommended, I strop before every shave. If Lynn said it I would bet the farm that it is the right information. He won't steer you wrong.

No not steer wrong, Im recieveing a positive result. I was under the impression the stropping was just prepartion for the test shave. But with this added step in my pyramid honing rotations I am acheiveing a better edge. Not sure Im came across right. Any way Im sticking with it. Sorry for the confusion

This was brought up some time back, about stropping during the middle of the honing session and maybe even before it...
Most people that tried it got a positive result....

You have to look at it through the eyes of the "Stropping Aligns the Fin people" then it would make sense...
If it works though go with the flow, I don't see how it could hurt anything just so long as yer stropping corectly...

I experimented between strop & no-strop for several months and came to the conclusion that doing so between 8k and finishing seems to make the final edge better for me.

Conceptually, probably not a bad idea after the 1k-4k grit range either: edge alignment and all that....:shrug:
