W&B Wedge
Folks,
I recently purchased a W&B razor from ebay that has an American Eagle on the front and the words American Razor. It appears to be a wedge. I have been working on it over the weekend to get the bevel re-established so I can sharpen it for shaving. I know that we discussed a while back working with wedges but I have forgotten much of that discussion. All I will tell you is that the steel in this razor is very hard and attempting to get a bevel is a real challenge. If any of you hone meisters out there know some tricks I would appreciate them. It looks like it should shave well once I get it to that point. It is a heavy blade I think 7/8 W&B. The seller thought from the 1800s.

Hi James,
I would recommend staying with a 45 degree angle on the hone using the X pattern. Works well with wedges. Depending on how much the spine is worn, you might want to do some circles first to establish your bevel and edge. Keep us posted.

I'll be staying tuned here .. I picked up an 1874 wedge last week - boy it's tough going so any pointers on honing will be most welcome , I can't wait to shave with it .
