Lynn is working on the video now. It'll be posted and talked about when it's finished. There are others online, however some of the honing techniques are questionable.

Thanks. I wait with tension.
Thanks to Lynn
If you have a webcam then either Lynn or me can give you a real time video honing session. This has worked well for several people. Personally I prefer Skype over Yahoo or MSN
Thx randydance:) I've live in Belgium and my english is not verry good but i've try it :hmmm:Quote:

My email address is randydance@comcast.net
My skype name/address is randydance062449
I will be home tomorrow so that would be a good time for me.
Send me an email with your skype name and I will call you.
This is a really cool and effective way to learn honing.
I send you my skypename tonight as soon as possible but now i'm working :)
But the time in Belgium is not the same time in your country.....:hmmm:
Whatever i send you my skypename but.....i don't know my skypename by heart :fim:
within 1 hour I am online:)Quote:

I can't remember if mini-soda is on central or eastern time but it will make you, jan either 7 or 8 hours ahead of randy. So, subtract 7 or 8 hours from your time then you can tell what hours you're online in eastern or central u.s. time.
Minnesota- UK =+ 6 hours
Minnesota - Belgium/Netherlands/ = +7 hours
Mini-soda is in the Central time zone:)
BTW, the honing session went very good.:)
MAXI-soda is in the gas zone. :DQuote:

Randy, why don't you record one of these honing sessions and put it in the help files.
this way, lots of people from all different time zones ;) can benefit from your experience.
just a thought...

There is no way to record the session that I know of. The other concern is file size. The file would be very large so I would have to have it hosted someplace else. Besides... Lynn will have his available soon.

I have great internet access at work but I think I'd get funny looks if I brought in a) a web cam and b) a collection of straight razors (although I don't think anyone would be game to say anything  )Quote:

Who's up for it?? Put you webcams where your mouths are (or fingers seeing as you are typing)
There's a whole bunch of programs that will just record video & audio of pretty much anything that's on your screen. Hypercam and FRAPS are two that come to mind. The only problem is, it may take a ton of resources depending on quality. The quality is also limited to a degree due to the fact that it has to do everything in real time. Though, any modern computer can record with quite respectable quality IMO.
But it's all kind of a moot point. Like Randy said, Lynn has been in production on some video and is almost done. skype and other web cam things are good for a quick interactive lesson to try to see what the "student" is doing wrong but for pre-recording and posting, There's almost the finished product already.

I'm sure Lynn would be the first one to agree that there is no one honing technique/style, no ultimate honig science, in fact, not even science at all, more art.
And personally, I like to watch different artists at work, see the differences, the similarities.
I really think people here in the forums would appreciate every effort people make, but I guess you can't force anybody...

Just so. I can easily see the benefit of the 'X' pattern on the hone, but haven't found that touch myself. But when it all comes down to it;Quote:

I have to do an X my Barber hones are too small to go straight. But I will say this, I am getting the hang of it. Did three yesterday with the help of a Barber Hone pyramid Hal made and sent me and it WORKED. I had to go back to the "bottom" of the pyramid twice on two (he broke it down, touchup,or ebay). But I got 3 razors "shave ready"!
Do us all a favor and post the Barber hone Pyramids here!
Hal knows his barber hones and I would be very interested in his suggestions.
