I need a little help guys.
A youtuber asked med if a Norton 3000/10000 grit would be a good stone for straights.
I am in a little doubt, because them jump is 7000 grit afterall, compared to to the jump of 4000 grit in a 4000/8000 stone.
Any advice would be much appreciated. :)
In my opinion 3k/10k might be ok for straights but you need at least one more stone (maybe 6-8k) between those grits. At least it helps a lot. That is why i think that 3/8 or 4/8 might be better. And if you honing a razor from total dull maybe something below that 3k makes it easier too.

I have no experience with that combo, so I can't say whether it would work or not, but I suspect that it would. It just might take a few more laps on the 10k.
I remember seeing a thread here where someone (Robert Williams?) experimented with going right from a bevel setter to a finisher and got ok results with it IIRC.

However the distance between possible and a good idea can be vast.

Btw my mistake, the stone is not Norton, its Naniwa.
