Help please..advice needed.

Well I've finished cleaning up an old Puma. I might go back and get all of the pitting out yet but here's the question.

I restored the edge with 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 grit. Then used my Jap 6000 waterstone. finsihed with 1 and 0.5 micron pasted paddle then stropped.

The shave wasn't bad, not a great deal of tugging or pulling but it's just not quite there yet. A smoothish finish but I can feel a few spots it didn't get as close as I want.

What process should I go back to ?.

When you say "not a great deal of tugging and pulling" I'm assuming there was some? First I would try stropping with firmer pressure (both linen and leather my preference) then if that don't do it, go back to your finest grit hone and do 6-8 light laps and strop again. Repeat until it's "there". This is assuming there are no other problems besides pitting with the razor of course.

Do you have any finer grits than 6000? I'd do at least 8k before resorting to pastes. My 8-k Japanese slipstones did the trick.

It was darn close..I cleaned up the blade a bit more, got rid of the last little spots, did the same routine again but this time gave an extra 10 laps on the 0.5 paste and boy it's shave ready.

Now I know why Puma's are regarded as good, the steel is amazing. Thanks all for advice.
