Hi,
I got a 12k Chinese from Steve @ Invisible Edge also. Great stone, it really is. Took some lapping on 3M wet & dry paper (180 then 320 grit) but it made it all the more enjoyable as it was like I was crafting it how I wanted. Got the edges rounded off nicely too now. I'll try to add a pic of it in progress.

Above after some hard work.
As long as you round off any sharp edges it should be fine. It gives great results, consistent and long lasting touch up with very little effort. It is a very hard stone though and the lapping can take a while and a fair bit of sandpaper. Worth it though.

I am test driving one of these right now. Couldn't say if it was lapped or not (would guess yes) but the story is in the fact the owner has several and this is the good one. The little I have used it so far shows me it is worth the money. This one I am using is actually nice and smooth, no other lines, color or crevices. Sharpens a duck as good as my 12k Nani but starts feeling comfortable after the second use more stropping.
