    I understand. I start on my thumb pad at times. But, my final test is on soft tissue, just like my face.

    Everybody at SRP has heard me rant about spike points, but I agree with Utopian that you don't have to do much.

    My first efforts, driven by nasty gouges in my face were too aggressive. Now I find just a couple light, angled strokes right at the point do the job just right. I still have the "precision" that the square point offers, but it doesn't tend to grab and gouge.

    When I do this right, i don't even have to re-hone the end of the razor.

    First, my apologies for taking a week to post this. And, my thanks to all who posted. I muted the tip using a combination of Sham's and Utopian's methods, taking all of 15 seconds. The results are perfect, and it didn't carve my face on any pass.
    I strop my razor with my eyes closed.
