I'm ashamed to admit it, but...

...my Norton's got mold.
I wanted to work on my Special No 1 today and when I pulled out the hone it had blueish spots all over the white side.

I immediately sprayed it with bleach and then proceeded to lap it with my 1000.
It's good that I did, too, because it wasn't perfectly flat any more. Anyhow, after lapping for at least 10 minutes, the blue spots/stains have faded but are still there.

Should I continue, maybe even use the 220, until they're gone? Or is it ok for now?

Anyhow, I'm letting it soak in bleach for now.

I feel like such a filthy animal....

I found that soaking mine for a few hours in a 10% bleach solution did the trick on the mold.

I have mine always soaking in a light bleach solution.

I found that it only takes about a 20 minute soak before using to get it ship shape so unless your like lynn and hone all the time I don't see any reason to keep it soaking all the time but of course if you must a little bleach in the water will do the trick.

I understand why one would keep it in water all the time: "but I want to hone NOW!", but I don't have the space to keep it in.
My gf is all over my case because of the razor stuff anyway ;)

I use a plastic juice container I picked up at target and keep it under the sink and out of sight. I have a wife with the same issues as your g/f.:D

You guys who use bleach, do you notice any effect when you later apply the razor to your face. I'm particularly interested in anyone who has very sensitive skin or a skin condition.

Not so far. But I have not had to use the hone much since I got the pasted paddle from Tony Miller.:o

i live in nyc also and i feel your pain. i have a 780sq foot 1bedroom apt that i pay $2275 a month for. and when my 1yr lease is up next month its going up another 200$ a month to resign!!@$!@$

space - i wish there was more. the wife has taken over the entire bedroom closet. i got the linen closet which i have to share with the linens also! i told her last night that i will be claiming 1/2 of the counter top along the wall in the bathroom for shaving supplies, she was not so keen on the idea or getting rid of the horrendous looking modern art crap thing she has there. i told her if we don't have room for that thing, i'll be happy to find it a home down the garbage shoot! i needed 18inches of counter top space and it caused a fight, so i understand man, i understand!

ever think of the size of the house and the plethora of razors we could have... not to mention work area to make some primo scales in the garage.. if we lived in the normal parts of the US paying $2275 a month mortgage?

maybe we should go to SCORES and find a shoulder to cry on :)

...man, i am never getting married or even moving in with a girl. i like things just the way they are; i live a block from the beach over a coffee house in a 2b/2b i share with my brother. we each pay about 350 a month. hell, the only thing i'd change would be to make the surf here a bit better so i never had to go anywhere.

Ha! You know, it's funny: people keep telling me that, but as time passes i feel less and less inclined to move in with or marry a lady.

But if it makes you happy, i'll call you in about ten years when i'm forty and remind you.
