I have a small coticule (approx 3" x 4.5"). I never feel like I'm getting a good stroke with this smaller stone. Is there a special technique for honing with a smaller stone?

Just the regular X pattern. The barber hones are even smaller, with 5x2" in size.
Jim,
My coticule is about 1 3/8 x 6, great stone. Just have to use an exagerated X pattern.

Yea no different than using a barbers hone. The old X pattern.
Thanks for the replies guys. I was out of town and didn't get the chance to respond earlier. Cheers
I have the smallest one ;) at 1 x 5 "
x pattern it is, however, I sometimes find it difficult to keep the toe on the hone at the last part of the stroke.
