Anyone ever try 0.125 diamond on felt before?

I just finished 5 new razor hones at 4K/8K/12K 0.5CrOx on balsa to 0.125 Diamond on Felt paddle. It shaves like a hot blade thru butter. These were my first attempt other then practice on a cheap heavy Kriegar:deadhorse:. (I just used it for a few days to perfect my technique before touching a real blade). They all took a great edge and came out clean. I have only shaved with one so far but I'm liking the results at this point. Before the shave I did 50 passes on clean pressed felt and then 100 on a hanging leather strop. Maybe I'm just being a newbie fool but was this overkill or have I hit on something? I have heard that anything under 0.25 diamond is pointless and possibly harmful(chipping) to the blade but it seemed like the felt "softened" this up???

:tameshigiri:OK on further review I think I may have exfoliated a bit much!! I'm a litlle sore. Smooth shave but tender now...

At this stage you may just need to lighten up on your pressure .

Yes . I meant during the shave but works for most things :)

How many laps on the diamond felt? Anything over 10 is risky. I am using 0.1 Carbon Boron and 5 laps is about right, then stropping about 50 laps before the shave. Make sure that the blade is almost flat against your skin, if it is as sharp as you say it is it will have no problem cutting all that stubble even with almost no pressure. A delicate edge? I have heard that but I really don't experience that with the razors that I am using.

I did 8 passes on the felt. I think I just used a bit to much preasure when shaving.
quick question, I was looking at the edge and noticed a very very slight smile edge, am I using too much preasure on the hone? Heavy handed?

You mean the razor was straight till you honed it ? :eek:

it had never been honed.

If the razor was made with a smile it's all good. If you created the smile refer back to post #3
