I have read it time and time again when discussing honing. I need a quick clerification on whether the edge is up or down when describing it as a smile or frown. Please, somebody help a blind man out. :)

Spine side up and cutting edge down,
A smile is good :) and bad is a frown.

Beautiful! Thanks so much. The visual details not only help me in understanding, but assist me in training my partner, so she can assist me, at the very least, in maintaince. However, I have a sneaking suspicion, that I will have to end up buying Bill's cd. My s.o.'s already excited at the prospect for another reason to pick up the Dremel. :)
your girlfriend/wife is pushing you to buy a dremel and is interested in honing a razor?
HELLO!@#$ RED FLAG!@#$ this name is flashing red lights in my head... Lorraina Bobbit!
i wish ya the best of luck. make sure you post pics and i hope she's kind enough to do a little shave as irony before the slice!
:D

Heh, I feel for you. My wife, a petite little 5'2" thing with a masters from Columbia, wanted a cordless drill for her wedding present. Her birthday present every year is the NFL season pass in hi definition.
ROFLOAO!!! Oh my god, that was the best belly laugh we've both had in awhile! She was in the bathroom and I was reading it to her off the computer. When I'm translating the computer speech, sometimes it's a little jerky but this was perfect. I red the warning line, then next came the Bobbit line and we lost it. Anyway, we already have a Dremel. I will be learning the honing. She is a real arts and crafts type and even digs tools, though we are both HIFs (Home Improvement Flunkies). Bottom, not Bobbit, line, is she is willing to help maintain, maybe even restore some as long as the collecting doesn't get out of hand. So I guess she does have the upper hand in that regard, since she's wielding the Dremel. :)Quote:

what's a lawnmower? and why does is matter if the wall is wet or dry before you put a screw in it?
Lol. Actually a friend of mine and her roommate dated guys who didn't know this either, so when one of them got drunk, fell and pulled down the towel rack off the door, guess who they called in to fix it. Took me about 15min of work to drill the holes, tap in the anchors, re-mount the rack, fill the holes and sand them down. I didn't go as far as putting on a coat of latex, I was hoping they could handle at least as much. I hope they didn't try using condoms instead of latex paint :roflmao
I have never heard this smile and frown in talks of honing.. What are you talking about here...
I understand that when you are honing you have the blade first and the spine on the stone as well. (as well as moving in a x pattern and doing the pyramid) :D
But this smile and frown are totally new to me.
Cheers
